Rita Bahuguna Joshi , Uttar Pradesh Congress Leader Joins BJP ahead of UP Assembly election

Uttar Pradesh Congress senior leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi today joined BJP in the presence of BJP president Amit Shah. This is a major setback to congress party ahead of polls in the state.

Speculations were rife about the possibility of Joshi joining BJP ahead of the UP Assembly polls next year.

The Congress had denied that the 67-year-old Lucknow Cantonment legislator would follow her brother, former party leader and ex-Uttarakhand chief minister Vijay Bahuguna, to the BJP.

Ms Joshi, the daughter of Congress stalwart Hemwati NandanBahuguna, was the chief of the congress party in UP.

Joshi a prominent Brahmin face of the party, had served as Congress party UP president between 2007-2012. Joshi was reportedly unhappy with “being sidelined” in the party.

Ms Joshi was said to be unhappy over the party's choice of Sheila Dikshit, the former Delhi Chief Minister, as the chief ministerial candidate and also she felt sidelined after Raj Babbar was named the state chief.

In today circumstances any leaders of any party can move to his/her choice of party...
